The 4R Book Club – a silent book club for returning, reluctant and reclusive readers

The 4R Club is a “silent book club”. While it is an opportunity to interact with others about a shared interest in books, it is also about taking time for silent reading and social/community connection.

The format:

The first 30 minutes will be a chance for attendees to share details on what they are reading, books they would like to read, or books they have read in the past.

The next 60 minutes is time to read. A chance to read in peace without outside distractions.

The last 30 minutes provide an opportunity to get social. A time to meet and connect with fellow community members.

Frequently asked questions:

Will there be an assigned book each month?

No – you get to choose. If you haven’t read anything you can still come and listen to others chat about what they are reading. This takes the pressure off – “no homework” for you!

How often does the club meet?

We meet on the fourth Thursday of each month (with the exception of December, July and August).

Do I have to preregister?

No – you can come to as many, or as few, events as you like.

Do I have to come for the full two hours?

No – you can stay for as little, or as long, as you would like.

Can I bring my children?

We love kids, but this is a chance for some adult-only time. We kindly ask that you leave the kids at home. (We do have some great kids programming during the week).

Will there be refreshments?

We are not able to offer refreshments, but feel free to bring a non-alcoholic beverage in a travel mug or water bottle.

Is there any cost for this?

No – we are happy to host this club as part of our Community Adult Literacy Programming.
