1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Assistant Library Director Jenny is proud to introduce the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program! This program will help develop a love of reading and provides opportunities for you and your child to bond. A child’s brain develops more between birth and 6 years of age than any other time in their lives. Children who are read to from a young age develop a larger vocabulary and stronger language skills. This program will help strengthen your child’s pre-reader skills.

Track every book read to your child, and celebrate every 100 book milestone. Each time you complete a book log come into the library for a new book log, a 100-book milestone colouring sheet and a sticker sheet for your child. When you have read 1,000 books, your child will receive a certificate, a free book, and their name will be added to our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten display in the library.

Reading 1,000 books may sound like a lot, but if you read just one book a night you will complete the program in three years. If you read three books a night you can reach your goal in one year.
