Sign Up for a Library Card

The Fort St. James Public Library promotes the greatest possible use of its collection by providing free membership opportunities to all who enter its facilities. A person may have no more than one active card at any time.

Permanent residents may join the library free of charge with proof of residency or a Fort St. James PO Box.

Members of other BC libraries may be eligible for a BC OneCard, which would give them borrowing privileges at Fort St.James Public Library.

Anyone who does not have a Fort St. James PO Box and does not have another BC library card (that can be turned in to a BC One card), can be set up with a temporary card with a deposit of $100. The $100 will be returned to them at the end of their stay in town, assuming the account is in good standing. If there are any fees owning, they will be deducted from the $100.

Library card holders’ rights and responsibilities

You are responsible for all the materials borrowed on your card and for any charges on items that are lost or damaged. (See Loan Periods and Fines for details). Your library card provides access to licensed databases from outside the library. You may also look at our catalogue from home over the Internet, and access your account to place holds, keep lists and renew items.

Lost or stolen cards

If you lose your library card, you are responsible for any items checked out on your card. You must report it as lost immediately and we will block the card so that no one can use it. There may be a small charge to replace a lost card.

Change of address or password

It is important for us to have your current information. If you change your address or other personal information, contact the library and we’ll update your record. You may change your PIN number to any four-digit number. Log in to your account, click on the “Account Preferences” tab, and change your password.

To change your PIN number, log in to your account, click on the "Account Preferences" tab, and change your password. We do not recommend that patrons use a 4 digit number as their password.  4 digit numbers should only be used for temporary passwords and should be changed to something more secure after the account is created.
